Are you suffering from periodontal disease (more commonly known as gum disease) and looking for a dental office to help? If so, then you have come to the right place. Here at Aesthetic Periodontal & Implant Specialists, we are specialists in helping you treat your gum disease, and get you back to living a normal, healthy life. Having gum disease affects more than just your mouth, so it is important that you come in and see us immediately.

What is gum disease?

In its early stages, gum disease is known as gingivitis. This is when just the gums are inflamed and could be infected. When gum disease progresses, the gums are definitely infected, and the rest of the tooth can become infected, too. You could wind up with gums that are slowly dying, a tooth that has an infection from the root to the pulp, and even an abscess that needs to be treated before it causes you to get incredibly sick.

Treating Periodontal Disease

When you are suffering from periodontal disease, you need to get the infection out of your mouth. The good news is, if you catch gum disease early, it can be treated, cured, and the damage can often be reversed. Going to your dentist every six months helps catch this as early as possible, and gives you the best options when it comes to early periodontal disease treatment.

The best way to get the infection out of your mouth is to come in and see us for a root scaling and planing. We go in between your tooth and your gum with a very tiny tool that gets the plaque buildup off of your tooth, and then remove the bacteria that have been living in this gap. We then clean out the gum pockets that are left, and you leave our offices with a very clean mouth.

This type of cleaning goes far deeper than most dentists are able to achieve. However, it rids your mouth of a lot of bacteria, and gives you a good foundation to restore your dental health.

Leaving Gum Disease Untreated

It is never wise to leave gum disease untreated. It can hurt not only your mouth, but also your entire body. The longer your gum disease goes on untreated, the more damage it can do. Not only can it cause your gums to recede, but it can also cause your teeth to fall out. Plus, it can cause plaque buildup outside of your mouth, too. Untreated gum disease has been shown to cause issues with plaque in your heart, brain, and even in your blood vessels.
