Gum RecontouringTired of looking in the mirror and observing a "gummy smile"? Want to feel more comfortable in your look instead of avoiding social events with family and friends? Gum recontouring is a safe and efficient method for removing excess gum tissue and creating symmetrical, aesthetically attractive smiles. Are you a viable candidate? The only way to be certain is to have a periodontist describe the method and criteria that qualify a person for such treatment.

What is Gum Recontouring?

Gum recontouring is a cosmetic procedure intended to correct a toothless grin caused by an excessive amount of oral tissue. Due to the technique including exposing more of the original tooth structure, the terms are equivalent.  This can be incredibly beneficial, especially if you require restorative treatment but are unable to proceed because there is insufficient available structure to install the replacement. A skilled and experienced periodontist can conduct the surgery rapidly and easily, decreasing the amount of time required in rehabilitation and ensuring effective healing.

Are You a Good Candidate for Gum Recontouring Treatment?

Due to gum recontouring being a surgical process, you must be in good overall health before continuing with treatment. You will be required to see a periodontist, who will assess your smile and take X-rays to examine the bone condition beneath your gums. They will determine the extent of your gingival appearance after collecting the essential information.

If you have protruding gums, teeth that seem small, an inconsistent gum line, or a cracked tooth that requires a dental crown, you may be suitable for gum recontouring. If your periodontist discovers evidence of tooth decay or gum disease, you must seek therapy to address these issues before starting this sort of aesthetic treatment.

Gum disease is known to promote oral tissue recession, it is probable that if you have your gums treated before beginning periodontal therapy. As a result, untreated oral health problems can have a negative impact on your smile. You will then realize that you will need to invest more time and money to care for the problem in order to achieve the desired appearance. Make an appointment with us to find out if gum recontouring is appropriate for you.
